Guide to Getting Started

What to Expect

Oftentimes the first step to beginning therapy services is to contact your primary care physician or specialist and discuss your concerns for speech. If necessary, the physician will write a prescription or referral for speech therapy that can be sent to our clinic. Please contact our Patient Services staff at 210-495-9944 to schedule a speech evaluation. Our friendly and knowledgeable patient services staff will briefly collect information about your concerns for therapy during the intake call. We will also collect your insurance information to obtain a quote of your benefits and coverage for therapy services.

After this initial call, we will ask that you submit more detailed information through our secure online Client Contact Form so that your evaluating therapist can have all of the necessary medical history to accurately conduct an evaluation. Our Patient Services staff will contact you to schedule an evaluation after you have submitted this information.

Your estimated health insurance benefits and costs in our clinic will be shared with you prior to your initial evaluation or treatment session. However, we encourage our clients to reach out to your health insurance representatives to verify your coverage and understand your benefits for speech therapy.

The evaluation process typically takes about 1.5 hours. During the evaluation, one of our Speech-Language Pathologists will conduct a series of interviews, standardized assessments, and clinical observations. All of our evaluations and therapy sessions are uniquely designed for each individual to maximize skills and participation in treatment. Once the assessment is complete, the therapist will make a recommendation for therapy services. You will receive a detailed, written report with assessment scores, treatment recommendations, and goals for therapy if applicable after the report has been written and finalized.

If therapy is recommended, our Patient Services staff will work with you to find an appointment time(s) best suited for your schedule based on the therapist's recommendations. We offer convenient extended hours to schedule appointments around school, work, and family time, as well as both in-clinic and virtual teletherapy options. Please be aware that your covered benefits may differ depending on whether the treatment is received in-clinic or through teletherapy.
